Designer Highlight: Rory Beca’s Light and Pretty Summer Maxis

This week’s designer highlight is Rory Edelman. Edelman’s career took off when Deb McGuire, stylist for the hit series, Friends, bought her hand knit scarves for the show.  Her knit creations, inspired by her travels, soon became an L.A. phenomenon. Rory Beca was the brand name Edelman chose when she launched her first collection in the summer of 2006.

So it’s only right that we take a look at her travel- and vintage-inspired designs for this summer. And coincidentally, we fell in love with them the minute we saw them in Shopbop‘s recently launched summer shop. These wispy, dream-like wrap gowns are just the right outfit for those hot summer days. And they look really pretty.

Jones Wrap Gown, $218

This melon-colored Jones Wrap Gown is an enticing ensemble for a daytime frolic at the beach. The faux wrap style begins with a V-shaped neckline and goes down into a curving, split hem that show off our legs– and possibly a good pair of nude colored platform sandals. The elastic on the waist gives the bodice a loose fit for a relaxed look. This Georgette fabric is sheer but its mid-thigh lining gives it touch of modesty.

Jones Fishtail Wrap Gown, $218

The Jones Fishtail Wrap Gown is made out of silk chiffon but has similar design elements as the Jones Wrap Gown. Again, it has a V-shaped neckline, and a split hem, but its highlight is its fishtail hem. It also features a hidden snap closure right where the V neck crosses over. We are especially in love with its deep blue color, giving it good versatility as night and daytime looks.

The style is a running them in the Rory Beca Spring 2012 collection, as you can see on the website. And you’ll be pleased to know that the brand features an array of maxi dresses. Enjoy!
