Fashion Rip-Off: Did Nicole Richie Copy An Odylyne Dress?

So did she? In a recent news article on the Daily Mail, Nicole Richie’s fashion prowess was questioned when her Jazbaa dress from her Spring 2012 collection for Winter Kate closely resembles Odylyne’s Mini Barbet Dress. This was raised previously by an article on Radar Online which also claims they spotted the celebrity designer wearing the Odylyne dress last year.

Both available on online store Revolve Clothing, the two dresses seem to share one feature too many once placed side by side. While the Jazbaa is obviously a maxi dress with a hi-lo skirt, the Mini Barbet dress skims the line between short and long with its shorter tail.

Looking closer, they both have V-necklines while the Winter Kate dress has a crisscross lacing for closure. The two dresses also have button-cuff sleeves, even a braided belt.

Material-wise, the Mini Barbet is made out of 100% rayon while the Jazbaa is 100% silk which probably explains why the Winter Kate dress is twice as expensive as the one by Odylyne. Both are good-looking dresses, of course. But that’s not the question, is it?

In the question of being ripped off, one might say it’s neither since it’s the consumer that’s buying. Others argue that a lot of designs and not just dresses, have been copied over and over and slapped with a different brand. How about you? What do you think?

I love fuchsia. It’s like the perfect middle ground for pink, red, and lavender. And combined ingeniously with light colors (like creme-de-menthe or white) on dresses, you come up with such a rich and interesting ensemble that is neither too harsh nor too drab. Like I said, the perfect middle ground.

Confounded again as to what to wear for that wedding? People sometimes forget that the big day is also stressful for the non-bridal party. After all, if you’re part of the entourage your dress is pretty much set. But for the guest, there are a lot of things to consider. Here are 5 dresses from Nordstrom coupled with a few tips to help you out.

Wrapped Neckline Trumpet Gown, $194, Lauren by Ralph Lauren

They said it’s best to start with the invitation. The look and theme of the wedding will tell us what we can go for. See if it’s formal, or something more casual. Taking note of the venue and type of service can also help. These days, it’s much easier since the couple also includes a color palette in the invite.

Color-wise, stick to the traditional observances: don’t wear white, don’t wear black, nothing too revealing. This varies, of course. And these days there are modern versions of these rules. If we can go to work in board shorts and cutoffs then maybe summer would be more bearable. But the workplace should always be kept dignified and that concept has considerably narrowed down our options. Or so we think.

We’re starting the week with a dose avant garde fashion. No, not the Lady Gaga kind but something more wearable for us regular people. We spotted this sensational silk maxi dress from Lamb that looks perfect for a fashionable event.

First, it does away with the norm and opts for navy blue instead of black as its main color theme. The maxi dress’ structure is simple enough, featuring a nice boat neckline and straight, short sleeves.
